Each month PSCPets.com chooses a different animal shelter, rescue or advocacy organization to support during the PSCPets.com Rescue Outreach Program. During the month of March the featured organization is the Sheltie Rescue of Utah.
The undertaking of Sheltie Rescue of Utah is to offer care and shelter for homeless Shetland Sheepdogs, also known as Shelties, placing them into loving, forever homes, thereby avoiding the unnecessary euthanasia of any Sheltie. Sheltie Rescue of Utah receives any Sheltie, at any age, and in any condition. Seniors Shelties who aren’t adopted live out their lives loved and cared for with a suitably matched volunteer family. Shelties not well enough to be adopted are provided with loving hospice care, as much comfort as possible, and the help needed to maintain a good quality of life through the end.
Sheltie Rescue of Utah is a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit, and an all-volunteer organization that uses a foster home approach rather than a shelter facility. Placing the Shelties in a foster home enables the volunteers who care for them the ability to observe the behaviors that will be the key to finding great forever homes for the Shelties, resulting in very prosperous adoptions. The foster home approach also provides an opportunity to work on house-training and other behaviors that are important in a well-mannered canine family member. This is particularly significant for dogs that have been seriously neglected or abused, left in a garage or basement, a car or crate, or outdoors.
All of the Sheltie dogs that come to Sheltie Rescue of Utah are given complete medical care, contingent upon need, starting with a veterinary assessment, broad blood panels for 5 year-olds and older, spaying and neutering, vaccinations, worming, heartworm testing followed by a preventative, and dentals and all Shelties are micro chipped before being adopted.
"We are really excited to be working with Sheltie Rescue of Utah; they are truly a devoted group of people. The foster care environment provided by Sheltie Rescue of Utah is an amazing feat in itself; it’s not an easy task to place every dog that comes to your organization into a foster home, but they accomplish it through tireless dedication. We’re eager to support them and their Shelties, and know our customers will be too." - Emmy Bill, PSCPets Rescue Outreach Coordinator
