On March 1, Yumi Media, a food website devoted to food news, recipes, and products to incorporate into your own healthy lifestyle, encourages parents to follow after Emily Deschanel’s parenting and place their children on meatless diets.
A recent article in Mother Nature Network reports that “Bones” star Emily Deschanel, a long-time vegan, is feeding her son Henry a meatless diet.
"We are raising Henry vegetarian; he will be mostly vegan and always have a choice in the matter, but we will educate him about why we make the choices we do with our food,” says Deschanel. “My husband isn't one hundred percent vegan. I read 'Disease-Proof Your Child' by Dr. Fuhrman, and think it is a must-read for parents trying to raise a healthy child," she adds.
Since giving birth in September of 2011, Deschanel has felt determined to find and use the safest baby products, reports Mother Nature Network.
“I was already using natural products in my home and on my body, but having a child made me even more concerned about everything. The more you read about the chemicals that are legally allowed in our homes, the more upsetting it can be. The extra effort that it takes is completely worth it, as is using cloth diapers instead of disposables, which we do with Henry. Sometimes the clean-up is a pain, but I feel better not contributing to the landfills as most diapers do," comments Deschanel.
Yumi Media representative Justin Maas offers a response, saying that Deschanel’s parenting methods are inspirational. “It is very difficult to care for a child. Finding the right foods to eat or avoiding certain chemicals can be taxing on any parent. And there is a heap of contradictory information out there, making the situation even more difficult for anyone trying to get the facts about vegetarianism and other healthy lifestyle issues,” adds Maas.
“We believe that parents are scared to move from the traditional methods of parenting – either because of cost, or bad press,” comments Maas, “but the benefits of vegetarianism are well-established at this point, and we urge every new parent to consider the benefits of going meatless with your child's diet. While Quorn complaints do occur, products like Quorn that promote make the transition to vegetarianism simple and easy are a really excellent option for children and busy parents, since they can match the nutritional content of meat (but have less fat) and are incredibly easy to prepare.”
