It has been reported in Lighting.co.uk that one of the main objectives of the underground extension was to maintain consistent light levels over the course of the day. Upon calculating daylight levels during the year, four different layers of screens with varying light transactions were designed and installed. Each skylight has a ring of LEDs to help deliver the required “ambient” lighting. The exhibition used half cool and half warm white LEDs, evenly distributed to ensure that when daylight levels are particularly low, such as in the evening or on a cloud day, the display is still uniformly illuminated.
The LEDs are controlled by a management system which sits on an adjacent building, monitors outdoor brightness and sends data through.
The team at Simple Lighting Company are naturally interested by any developments or discoveries within the LED industry. This story caught their attention in particular thanks to the clever combination of natural daylight and artificial light. A representative from the firm shares their thoughts on the subject.
“This project is particularly impressive due to the amount of thought that has gone into creating the perfect blend of light. It just goes to show the versatility of LEDs. Unlike typical bulbs there is a wider choice of colours, as well as sizes, allowing people to experiment more with their home as well as garden lighting.
At Simple Lighting we offer a vast collection of LED tape lights and strip lighting that can be used throughout the home to create different effects. Those who are particularly adventurous or creative might want to take inspiration from this museum project.”
