The Muscle Development Store Discusses Importance of Post- and Pre-Workout Supplements

On March 5, 2013, Brian Turner, Muscular Development Store representative, responded to AM New York’s article about post-workout supplements suggesting that pre-workout supplements are just as important for an effective workout.

According to AM New York, Amanda Carlson-Phillips, registered dietitian and V.P. of nutrition and research at Athletes' Performance, said that exercising burns more than just calories, that the body also depletes energy and muscle, making post-workout nutrition very important.

"The workout ends after the nutrition," said Amanda Carlson-Phillips. "The body needs fuel, and you deplete them [nutrients] as you train."

AM New York reported that Carlson-Phillips recommends a combination of protein and carbohydrates within 30 minutes of concluding your workout. Despite the recommendations by Carlson-Phillips as well as many other dieticians and trainers, many people do not give their body enough replenishment after working out.

A recent survey conducted by the health and nutrition company Abbott Nutrition/EAS Sports Nutrition found that “36 percent of respondents did not want to ingest any calories after working out, 50 percent didn't want carbohydrates and 53 percent didn't want protein,” reports AM New York.

Brian Turner, a representative for the Muscle Development Store, agreed with Carlson-Phillips but he added that pre-workout supplements are just as important. “In order to get the best results from a workout, you need to put 100 percent into every exercise you do. Getting some fuel in your body pre-workout is a necessary part of making sure you have enough energy throughout your session,” he said.

“The body is a working machine and needs to be fueled and maintained regardless of activity,” adds Turner. “Neglecting the body can only result in harming the body in the long run.”
