Frames Bowling Lounge, while renowned for hosting a variety of high profile corporate events and premiere parties for companies from Barclays to BravoTV in their low-key atmosphere, were intrigued by a recent request for a young professional evening of Nudist Bowling.
The group's organizer, Erik Jakobsen, revealed all to his event planner at Frames, prior to either party committing to the event. "I understand if this is a deal-breaker," he said, "though I do hope you'll consider accepting."
In an email to Danielle, his events coordinator, Erik explained: " We'd like to proceed with booking the VIP room for that night. But before we do, I need to offer some disclosure."
Mr. Jakobsen went on to describe the guests he was arranging the event for, the Young Naturists America. "The organization puts together naked events to promote social acceptance. Their core demographic is younger people, mostly in the 18-40 range. They would prefer this event to be clothing-optional, which is why having a completely separate room is key."
"YNA has a solid track record of events in a variety of venues here in New York, so if you need any references to check they can certainly supply them."
The Naturists were hoping that Frames, the chic Bowling Lounge located at 9th Avenue in Midtown, would be open to hosting their rather interesting event, without judgement. Mr. Jakobsen admitted that Frames was their number one choice, explaining: "of all the bowling locations I scouted in NYC, Frames best fit the bill."
A nudist group actually hosted a similar event at the bowling venue 2 years ago, and it proved a huge success. Although they bowled in the public lanes, their guests proved very respectful and kept to themselves. Still, this year, the YNA opted for a bit more discretion, and have reserved Frames' private VIP lanes.
Danielle had to verify that clothing would be required upon using any of the public spaces, such as the Arcades, Billiards, Restrooms or Lounge areas.
"They came two years ago and were a sweet, fun group," reminisced Enrico Bessone, Manager at Frames. "Most of our waitstaff were a bit apprehensive about serving [the nude bowlers], but one server, Matt DeCapua, actually removed his own clothes voluntarily to make the players feel more comfortable while he was serving them."
A quick conversation with Mr. DeCapua confirmed that, aside for the fact that he is a tall lean stage performer who often-times disrobes for theatrical roles, he was glad to participate, and actually enjoyed the "social experiment" side of servicing a party in the buff.
Now that's what we call a team player.
