At the higher levels of rugby we're going to need this kind of pace. This is good stuff.

By Rob Dyer -- Navy Men’s Rugby extended its undefeated season (3-0) in 15s with an impressive 100-0 victory over Atlantic Coast Rugby League (ACRL) opponent Wake Forest. The Midshipmen scored fairly early in the match and only seemed to increase the tempo as the match went on. Head Coach Mike Flanagan pushed the team to increase the pace throughout the match. “It’s fun to watch the men play to their potential,” said Flanagan, “at the higher levels of rugby we’re going to need this kind of pace. This is good stuff.”
In the end, Navy Rugby scored 16 different times. In just 80 minutes of rugby, Navy used all of their subs and saw scores from Freshmen: Cyrus Wilson (1), Sophomores: Daniel Gallien (3), Beau Bartlett (3), Ron Helms (1), Jack McAuliffe (1), Juniors: Joe DiPietro (1), Ricky Neel-Feller (1), David Dollinar (1), Chris Rixey (2), and Justin Lemascus represented the Senior class with 2 tries. Junior Jack McAuliffe converted 10 of his 16 kicks for a total of 25 points on the day. Also from the Junior class, Chris Rixey was named “Man of the Match” for his incredible contribution on both offense and defense. At times Wake Forest only seemed to be able to move backwards thanks to his defensive leadership.
The higher pace Coach Flanagan speaks of comes to Navy Marine Corps Stadium April 20th for the Inaugural Varsity Cup East Coast Quarter Finals. That weekend #6 seeded Navy will face #3 seeded Dartmouth. The Midshipmen have already faced Dartmouth at the fall 7s National Championship (Navy came from behind at half to win that match). That same weekend will see #2 Cal face #7 Notre Dame. Follow the Mids leading up to the tournament and stay tuned for ticket purchase info at http://www.usna.edu/Rugby.
