The Consumer Attorney's Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) publishes a monthly periodical called Advocate that features a number of articles on pressing issues for plaintiff attorneys. The March issue features a spread on PowerLiens.com, the largest directory of physicians working on liens.
The March issue of the Advocate is focused on the use of damages and experts. It features a number of articles including one on how experts are not just for trials and how they can be used for MSJ oppositions and to prepare for depositions and mediation. Another article in the issue is about what to expect when the defense contests damages, explaining to be prepared for canned arguments and reliance on averages. The next article is on designating effective experts to prove emotional injuries, which can be very valuable at trial. The following article is on general damages in negligence actions by Hon. Rita Miller. After that, there is an article on finding hard proof in pain and suffering, which discusses how investigating medical records can reveal evidence of the "fifth vital sign". Next comes an article on California's new seven-hour deposition statute, designed to prevent abuses in depositions. On page 82, there is an article that teaches how to maintain cost control while making effective use of experts. There is also an article on asking the jury for pain and suffering damages, including PTSD, which can be especially challenging. Finally, the last article is called "Hay! You better not hurt man's best friend", and is about suing for emotional damages.
