On March 6, Yumi Media, a food website devoted to food news, recipes, and products for a healthy lifestyle, welcomes a new café to the vegan community.

According to Maplewood-Brentwood Patch, a new raw food, vegan cafe is set to open its doors in Clayton, Missouri this spring. The opening of Seedz Café (whose new location will be at 6344 S. Rosebury Avenue) was approved in late February.

The Maplewood-Brentwood Patch reports that owners Montgomery Gralnick and Cara Schloss are returning to the St. Louis area, their original stomping ground, after having lived for some time in California “[preparing] food for high-profile people who were very specific about the nutritional content of their diet. It was part of the work [Gralnick] did on movie sets, which he was involved in on the West Coast.”

“As life would have it, it has brought us back to the area, bearing, hopefully gifts of nutrition and wellness,” Gralnick said.

Gralnick said to Maplewood-Brentwood Patch that Seedz will be serving juices, as well as something new to St. Louis – smoothies, rebranded under the term “infused elixiers.” The couple hopes to organize some juice-focused fasting and cleansing programs, reports the article.

Gralnick said that the café will stock wine, beer and other spirits from independent brewers and wineries. Schloss also wants to establish a relationship with local produce growers.

“From the vegan and raw foods communities, we welcome Gralnick, Schloss and the Seedz Café to the scene,” comments Justin Maas, Yumi Media representative. “To cater to a specific consumer diet can be a tremendous burden. Companies that cater specifically to vegans or vegetarians, like Quorn – which helped me to go meatless in the first place – are always under attack for their promotion of a healthier lifestyle and for their 'substitution' approach. Quorn complaints are, for the most part, lacking in any credibility. Eating healthy should be a priority for everyone, even if you are not vegan.”

Maas goes on to say that the road ahead for Gralnick and Schloss will be hard but there will always be someone behind the Seedz Café. “We wish the Seedz Café all the luck in the world.”
