"Everyone in Southie is Irish on St. Patty's Day!" So say many South Boston locals who gather up and down Broadway to enjoy the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. Boston always makes the list of best places to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, and the parade is one big reason why.

Boston hosts St. Patrick’s Day events throughout the week and, for many locals, Parade Day is an all-day celebration. The streets turn into a sea of green shirts as about 600,000 people vie for the best seats along the route. Irish bands, military units, colorful floats, Boston Police on horseback and local politicians are some of the common parade participants.

After the parade, which begins at 1 o’clock, you’ll find plenty of other St. Patty’s Day events to enjoy nearby such as the Gaelic Gourmet Gala and concerts by Irish bands. You can also rub elbows with some Irish locals bars such as Black Thorn or Shenanigans.

Stay at one the nearby Boston Hotels for easy access to the parade and other St. Patrick's Day Events.

Parade Route: The Parade starts on West Broadway (easterly), left onto East Broadway, right onto P Street, right onto East 4th Street, right onto East 5th Street, left onto G Street, right onto the Southerly Arm of Thomas Park, left onto Telegraph Street, left onto Dorchester Street, and ending at Dorchester Avenue near Andrew Square.
