On March 8, Yumi Media, a food website devoted to food news, recipes, and products to incorporate into your own healthy lifestyle, applauds the new expansion of the Jewish Studies Center at the College of Charleston and invites all vegans and vegetarians alike to offer their support.
According to CisternYard News, the College of Charleston “received a $1 million pledge from a group of donors solely for the expansion of the Jewish Studies Center.” The article reports that “This expansion will provide more classrooms for the School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs as well as additional space for the Center for Southern Jewish Culture and the Zucker/Goldberg Center for Holocaust Studies” and “will include the creation of a new dining hall geared toward the kosher-observant and vegan/vegetarian eaters at the College. Students with special eating needs will have a new option to consider.”
The Center will be named in honor of Mart Perlmutter, current director of the Jewish Studies Program and force behind the fundraising campaign which led to the Center’s expansion, reports CisternYard News. “This new dining hall represents the strength of the College of Charleston’s Jewish community. The dedication to living a lifestyle that observes kosher and vegan/vegetarian practices takes commitment,” states Justin Maas, a Yumi Media representative who found his way to vegetarianism by gradually reducing his meat consumption using meat alternative products like Quorn. “We hope that the new center will encourage those of all lifestyles to sit together and enjoy vegan and vegetarian meals like Quorn.”
