The next course in the 2013 DesignRealized AIA Continuing Education Series is The Evolution of High Performance Dynamic Facade Design scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, at 12pm Pacific/3pm Eastern. This online course, which qualifies for 1 AIA CES Learning Unit, will examine how Krueck+Sexton found innovation through an evolutionary process of dynamic façade design by comparing two recent projects.

Speaker Mark P. Sexton, Principal, will present case studies of façade designs for the Spertus Institute and a Federal Office Building created by Krueck+Sexton. The 14,000sf shaped façade for the Spertus Institute was created through a design-driven modeling process, which resulted in a custom mullion structure that allowed for a wide range of rotation. A 200,000sf shaped façade for a Federal Office Building required optimization while trying to achieve maximum expression.

“This program will examine how fabrication objectives can merge with design objectives to reduce costs and improve schedules,” says Thomas M. Simmons, curriculum developer. “Participants will also see how unitized curtain wall design and detailing can have a significant impact on efficiency.”

Mark P. Sexton, founding partner of Krueck+Sexton Architects, along with Ronald Krueck, designs and manages all of the firm's work. His dedication to craftsmanship, material, and detail enables the firm's built work to express the values of modern design with a timeless quality.

The 2013 DesignRealized AIA CES Education program consists of 24 courses split into three series: Blogs to BIM: Technology in Practice; Adaptive Reuse & Renovation, and Eco-Responsible Design 2030. Speakers for these programs are leading architects, consultants and contractors from such firms as HOK, Hensel Phelps Construction and the DLR Group.
