Cocoa Family has launched the transparency program T.R.U.S.T. utilizing QR codes on the packaging for its ingredients to provide customers with fast access to information pertaining to their cocoa ingredients, including: its geographical region, harvest and manufacturing date, lot numbers, and product specifications. Using transparency, reliability, user-friendliness, single-sourced, and traceability develops T.R.U.S.T.
Traceability and transparency of cocoa products has been a major challenge for the organic sector of the cocoa industry. Due to the way that cacao is bought and sold, it is often handled by many times before it reaches the final buyer and traceability can be lost along the way. Within such a large industry it is difficult to ensure that products maintain their source integrity from farm to table.
“It is not enough anymore to just be labeled organic or kosher. We want our clients to have confidence that they are truly getting what the label says they are getting. We are making sure that our buyers have the knowledge of where and when the cacao ingredients were produced. This assurance of the quality of their ingredients gives peace of mind that they will be able to manufacturer their best product. Our T.R.U.S.T. program provides for another level of knowledge and control over the products that buyers are receiving,” states Vaagn Arakelyan, Director of Cocoa Trade.
