Glen Ellyn, IL (PRWEB) March 12, 2013
Marcel’s Culinary Experience (http://www.marcelsculinaryexperience.com), a gourmet retailer and recreational cooking school in Glen Ellyn, Ill. (Chicago suburb), has announced its second quarter 2013 schedule, featuring dozens of new classes and events for cooks of all ages and skill levels.
“Beginning in April, we’re offering hands-on and demonstration classes in more price points, at different times, and in some new formats. Many of these changes are based on the results of a customer survey we conducted at year-end,” explained Marcel’s owner Jill Foucré.
Marcel’s new “twilight” series of demonstration classes will be held in the early evening with beer and wine service. “The format will be the same as our popular Midday at Marcel’s classes, and the timing will be perfect for after work or as a prelude to an evening out,” said Foucré.
Newly added cocktail party-style events will feature interactive cooking demonstrations, plus lots of sipping and sampling. Themes include scotch and steak (April 6), tacos and tequila (May 3), and Caribbean and rum (June 15).
Another new format involves collaborations between two chefs who tackle the same menu and add their own personal influence. Scheduled match-ups include French meets Latin (May 24), and cooking with wine and beer (June 21).
Two upcoming events combine cooking classes and field trips – one to local restaurant flour + wine (April 16), the other to the Glen Ellyn Farmer’s Market (June 7).
Farmer’s markets and other locally grown produce factor heavily into two classes taught by registered dietician Lynn Dugan: cooking from the market (May 22), and getting the most from your CSA (June 13).
Beginning in June, Marcel’s will be a CSA distribution location for Nichols Farm (http://www.nicholsfarm.com). “We’re happy to partner with Nichols Farm in providing high quality locally grown produce to our customers and others in the community, and we’re especially excited that Todd Nichols will be joining us for our June 13 CSA class,” said Foucré.
Along with a new array of seasonal ingredients, warmer weather brings the desire for lighter menus, and the urge to fire up the grill. Marcel’s responds with classes on:
Marcel’s popular classes for young cooks continue, coordinating with local school holidays and breaks. Classes target three groups: ages 6 to 8, ages 9 to 11, and ages 12 to 16. Marcel’s is offering two four-day camps in June, with the option to register for single or multiple sessions. Moms and dads can even get involved, by cooking with their children (May 5, June 15) in advance of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
Chef Jean True, who once cooked and lived in Julia Child's home in Provence, continues her series of French-themed classes at Marcel’s. Examples: Parisian afternoon tea (April 6), Parisian dinner party (April 27), Julie and Julia (May 2), French bistro dishes for al fresco dining (June 4), and French country summer kitchen (June 29). She is also teaching a mother’s luncheon class (May 8), plus – with her two adult sons -- a cooking with mom class (May 11). Both sessions are designed for adults who want to cook with their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, etc.
