Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) March 15, 2013
Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center will hold two hands-on, weekend workshops on skill building in oils from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, and Saturday, May 4 at 3000 General Pershing Blvd. at State Fair Park.
In the 4 hour session on Saturday, April 6, students will focus on understanding the value structure (the range of lights and darks used) of a painting. Students will create two different value scales and two different small oil sketches from one still life arrangement in order to see the pictorial options available through designing your value structure.
In the 4 hour session on Saturday, May 4, students will explore how to raise and lower the value of a color without “washing out” or “muddying” the color. Students will be working with a limited palette of primaries and create preliminary color charts to gain experience mixing color. Students will then paint a simple arrangement to reinforce the knowledge gained.
The workshops will be taught by Kelli Folsom. Raised in the panhandle of Texas and Southeastern Oklahoma, Kelli Folsom’s love of creating art was inspired by her grandmother’s paintings and drawings. In 2011 she earned a B.F.A. from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Connecticut. In 2011, she was a recipient of the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship through the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. Kelli Folsom is an Artist Member of Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists and the Oklahoma Society of Impressionists. Her work is collected internationally and exhibited nationwide in galleries as well as regionally in venues such as the National Cowboy Museum.
The workshops cost $45 and are appropriate for all skill levels. Supplies are not included with registration. You may take one or both of the workshops.
