“I would recommend this class to anyone and everyone. I even tell a lot of nurses, ‘You should take this class. You could actually afford it. Get certified. Why not, if it’s what you want to do?’
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 15, 2013
In keeping with the demand for health care professionals, San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies is offering both in-class and online professional health care certificate and certification programs to help individuals preparing for these lucrative careers.
It’s a great time to enter the field because health care jobs continue to be on the rise. In fact, aol.com reports that health care has grown twice as fast as the national economy over the past few years.
In its latest projections, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the following:
“The health care and social assistance industry is expected to generate the ‘largest number of jobs, 5.6 million, at an annual rate of 3.0 percent’ between now and 2020 - the most dramatic growth compared to any sector in the country.”
Furthermore, U.S. News and World Report states that jobs in health care and technology dominate the rankings for the best jobs in 2013.
Linda Weygandt, who works at a San Diego-area hospital, helped get her foot in the door by taking the EKG Technician Certification program through SDSU’s College of Extended Studies.
“I would recommend this class to anyone and everyone,” she said. “I even tell a lot of nurses, ‘You should take this class. You could actually afford it. Get certified. Why not, if it’s what you want to do?’ I’m really excited that I’ve taken the class. When I talk about it, I feel really proud about the knowledge I’ve gained from it.”
SDSU’s College of Extended Studies has programs that will qualify students to enter the health care field in as little as six months. These courses are hands-on and teach practical and needed skills, and are scheduled for working adults and taught by industry experts. Most courses are offered online, giving students 24/7 access to their classes whenever they have an available computer.
The College is an approved provider for this and many other “education to career” funding programs through San Diego Workforce Partnership, Military Spouse, and Veterans benefits. For more information concerning the military benefits, email rturner(at)mail.sdsu(dot)edu or call (619) 594-3047.
SDSU’s College of Extended Studies offers training in the growing pharmacy technician field. The College also prepares individuals for health care occupations through such courses as clinical medical assistant, medical billing and coding + medical terminology, electronic health record management, EKG technician certification, ECG/EKG for nurses, and dialysis technician.
The College additionally offers an online Professional Certificate in Sports Nutrition and Performance. This innovative and comprehensive web-based certificate program provides an in-depth examination of contemporary nutritional topics such as meal plan analysis, functional food implementation, antioxidants, public nutrition, sports nutrition, vitamin supplementation, and weight management.
