The world we live in is driven by technology and science. Therefore, students growing up must be prepared to compete for jobs and gain employment.
Miami, FL (PRWEB) March 18, 2013
The On It Foundation (Opportunities Necessary to Increase Technology) received grants from the Best Buy Aventura and jcp Cares to help disadvantaged students benefit from building academic and 21st century skills. The grants also provided the opportunity to launch The On It Foundation’s FIRST Robotic Competition Team 4592 under our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program.
Best Buy Aventura and jcp Cares selected The On It Foundation through their Community Grants programs. The grants provide funding for non-profit organizations within the United States to give students access and opportunity that can help them excel in school and the competitive workplace environment.
The On It Foundation is delighted and honored to have received a grant from Best Buy Aventura and jcp Cares to initiate this incredible partnership with our Mentor Ron Callis, CEO at OneFireFly, LLC, a design and engineering firm and Mr. Robert Derrick, Engineering Instructor at McArthur High School, both located in Hollywood, FL. “As a team, we are truly committed to helping students build STEM skill-sets that are critical to their future.”, proclaimed Calvetta Phair, President of The On It Foundation. Ms. Phair also added, “You never know… one of our students may just become a future ‘Employee of the Year’ from the training received on behalf of the contributions made by our corporate sponsors!”.
Across the country, Home Automation Hound, an online resource dedicated exclusively to home automation, is now an official Silver Sponsor of The On It Foundation’s high school robotics team. “When I heard about The On It Foundation and the FIRST Robotics Competition, I knew I wanted to get involved in some way,” said George Borghi, president and founder of Home Automation Hound.
The On It Foundation received generous sponsorships from the Boca Bearing Company of Boynton Beach, FL, a leading company in its field providing miniature bearings for industry, hobby and recreation; American Fasteners Corporation which has been providing exceptional products and services for over 30 years in Miami-Dade County and did not hesitate to help provide assistance to The On It Foundation; and Mr. Glen Wilder, Manager of Alro Steel Corporation in Doral, FL, a former coach of McArthur High School who continues to support community organizations in South Florida.
“Our goal is to incorporate STEM education and career opportunities in the everyday lives of youth that might, otherwise, not have had the advantage of learning such skills-sets,” says Ms. Phair. “The world we live in is driven by technology and science. Therefore, students growing up must be prepared to compete for jobs and gain employment. Companies that make corporate charitable donations, provide time and expertise via employee volunteer programs and donate the computers which we distribute, can make the students’ dream possible.” advanced Ms. Phair.
The On It Foundation is also calling on all corporations to join its “Put Your Name ‘On It’!” campaign and make a difference in America’s communities. By sponsoring, corporations will have their individual or company name on The On It Foundation’s Team 4592 Robot “Julia”. Our FIRST Robotic Competition is scheduled for March 28th – March 30th, 2013 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale | Broward Convention Center. Over 60 FIRST teams from around the country will be competing in South Florida before an estimated audience of about 2000 with national FIRST media attention!
For a minimum tax-deductible donation of $50.00, your company name and logo will be placed on team shirts, and of course, “Julia’s” placement cart. Every dollar of your donation helps to provide ongoing STEM education and career alternatives for our students.
