Avanquest Recommends PMD, VOB, and WRL Software

PMD, VOB, and WRL file extensions are associated with a variety of different file types one of which is a 3D image file. As 3D file types are used for a variety of different purposes, including animation, Computer Aided Design (CAD) 3D models for designing structures and engineering components, Avanquest recently introduced recommendations on the main types of software to open PMD, VOB, and WRL files.

File extension PMD is a 3D image file type which is used for creating models for characters and animations. PMD files contain textures, images, objects, and shapes which are used to design models, characters, and dance moves. This type of 3D image file is commonly associated with Poser 9 and MikuMikuDance.

File extension VOB contains three dimensional images which are designed for use with environmental engineering projects and artistic presentations. VOB files originate from the Vue software application which is used by environmental professionals as well as artists.

File extension WRL is a 3D image file which is used to create a virtual world. WRL files contain definitions for objects and shapes which are known as coordinates. The coordinates allow for the navigation of a virtual world which is created using the Virtual Reality Modeling Language or VRML.
File Extension PMD, VOB, and WRL Software

Depending upon the type of 3D image file, this file type can be opened using a variety of different software applications. In some instances, 3D image files can be proprietary where in other cases, 3D image files are more versatile and can be opened using the native application or an alternative program. The following software applications can be used to open file extension PMD, VOB, and WRL.
Vue: E-on Software Vue is an application which provides tools for creating environmental objects in 3D. The Vue software application is offered in different versions each of which performs a different function for creating three dimensional images such as fantasy 3D worlds, 3D video clips, environmental imaging, and more. Vue will open file extension VOB and is available on the E-on Software website. Vue is designed for use with the Windows operating system and Mac OS X.

Poser 9: Smith Micro Poser 9 is a software application which provides a way to create 3D animation, characters, objects, and other types of images in 3D. Poser 9 offers fully textured human and animal figures in addition to a variety of accessories for setting 3D props and scene elements. File extension PMD can be opened using the Poser 9 software application which is available in a trial version on the Smith Micro website. Poser 9 is compatible with the Windows operating system and Mac OS X.

MikuMikuDance: File extension PMD can be opened using MikuMikuDance which is a software application that provides a set of tools for creating 3D dance animations. MikuMikuDance can also be used in conjunction with PMD Editor which is designed to edit PMD files created with the MikuMikuDance application. Both applications are compatible with the Windows operating system and available on the MikuMikuDance website.
TurboCAD: IMSI TurboCAD Deluxe is a Computer Aided Design software application that will open file extension WRL. TurboCAD is available in a trial version on the IMSI TurboCAD website and is compatible with the Windows operating system and Mac OS X. Windows users should use TurboCAD Deluxe 19 and Mac OS X users should use TurboCAD Deluxe v6.

FreeWRL: File extension WRL can be opened using the FreeWRL open source viewing application for X3D and VRML components. FreeWRL is available as an unpaid download on the SourceForge website and is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, and the Linux operating system.
Cortona 3D: Parallel Graphics Cortona 3D is an interactive 3D viewer which will open file extension WRL. Cortona 3D functions as a plugin to allow three dimensional graphics to be viewed in any web browser and is compatible with the Windows operating system and iOS. Cortona 3D Viewer is available as a 30-day unpaid trial on the Cortona 3D website with the option to purchase a license at the end of the trial period.

These are some of the software applications recommended by Avanquest to open PMD, VOB, and WRL files. Additional 3D modeling tools which will open these file types are revealed in the Avanquest file extension database.
