Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 15, 2013
On June 21, a team of 160 cancer survivors, caregivers and advocates will set out to complete 160 consecutive marathons along a 4,000-mile route that will cross the United States from Grays Harbor County, WA to Rehoboth Beach, DE. Each runner will complete one marathon distance and has committed to raising a minimum of $7,500. Collectively the team hopes to raise more that $1 Million for cancer research programs.
Montufar and Kitchen were among the first 10 runners to apply for the team, which has now increased to more than 80 participants in just over one month and recently surpassed the $140,000 fundraising mark.
"Most people don't realize that one-third of cancer related deaths each year result from poor diet and lack of exercise. That's nearly 200,000 avoidable fatalities in America alone. This run is our way of raising both funds and awareness, specifically to let people know that a fit lifestyle can help reduce their chances of being diagnosed with the disease" said Montufar.
The Million Dollar Marathon is still accepting runner applications. Visit http://coasttocoastforcancer.org to learn more.
