On March 19, meat-alternative manufacturer, Quorn, responds to an article published by the Daily O’Collegian, which describes a recent event aimed to inform students of the pros and cons of eating meat.

According to the Daily O’Collegian, Oklahoma State College hosted an event showcasing the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) and the Vegetarian Club. These two groups set up tents with the intention of educating the student body on the benefits of eating meat and not eating meat.

The purpose of the event, reports Daily O’Collegian, is to educate students on where food comes from so they can make a decision on how to maintain a healthy diet that suits them.

David Wilson, a representative of meatless meals manufacturer Quorn foods says there is an undeniable amount of protein in meat. However, he says there are foods containing meat-substitutes that taste virtually the same.

“Our food has a great taste that meat lovers can appreciate,” he says. “Our mycoprotein meals have a similar consistency to meat. Many of our customers use our vegan burgers and meatless chicken nuggets to replace actual meat in an attempt to be healthier. Meat has a lot of fat that our products do not. However, going meatless at least one day during the week significantly reduces the risk of heart disease and obesity.”

Wilson also says eating less meat might help students keep off extra pounds gained when entering college. “Eating less meat and more vegetables also might help keep off the ‘freshman 15’ that most students fear,” he says. “Students often have a hard time keeping a healthy diet when they are surrounded by unhealthy food. We make delicious ready to serve meals that are high in protein. We encourage students to eat these tasty meals to manage their weight and feel better.”

Looking for a healthy alternative to meat? Unlike other meatless food companies, Quorn foods uses mycoprotein: a healthy, naturally occurring alternative protein source that replicates the taste and texture of meat, while being significantly lower in saturated fats and calories. Quorn Foods offer a wide range of products, including ready-to-serve meals, snacks, and food for your barbecue -- as well as ingredients to make your own nutritious, meat-free dishes from scratch. The wonderful taste of Quorn food's meatless meals lets you experience the foods you love without sacrificing taste or nutrition.
