On March 19, 2013, Rapid Recovery Solution comments on a Pilot Online article by Carolyn Shapiro outlining various steps a consumer should take when looking to clear up their debt.
According to the Pilot Online article, Neal Stern, a debt collector, decided to make an online program to help consumers understand how to settle their debt, and to help them manage their money so they can avoid being stuck in debt in the future. Stern hopes that the website will help people realize where they might be at risk, and hopes it can answer consumers' questions about credit as well.
The article goes on to mention that some consumers believe that if a debt collection company can’t contact you on a phone, then the debt collection services aren't valid. Stern hopes people realize this isn’t the case, and says “Just because someone can’t call you doesn’t mean the debt collection is over.” The ultimate goal of informing the consumer is to get the debt paid as easily as possible, according to the article. If a consumer fails to pay, they could end up in court. “We do not want to sue people,” Stern said.
John Monderine, CEO of the New York-based debt collection agency Rapid Recovery Solution, offers his comments about the tips Stern is offering to consumers. “It’s great when the consumer knows what they need to do to settle a debt. It makes it easier for everyone. One of the biggest problems in this industry is debtors being uninformed about their rights. Some people may not be aware of just how much their debt can affect them. These tips are a great way of making sure the consumer realizes the situation they’re in, and how they can get out of it.”
