The mesothelioma law firm Baron and Budd hails the United States Senate for unanimously passing Senate Resolution 66, establishing the week of April 1st – 7Th, 2013 as National Asbestos Awareness Week (NAAW). The mesothelioma attorneys at Baron and Budd know that many people are still unaware of the dangers associated with asbestos exposure. It is, therefore, imperative to bring awareness to national public health education regarding asbestos, which is the goal of NAAW. The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) was instrumental in getting this resolution passed.
“It is a tragedy that people still are subject to asbestos exposure and it continues to be imported into the U.S.,” said Russell Budd, co-founder and managing shareholder of Baron and Budd. “People should need aware that the danger of asbestos exposure still exists today and that the hazardous material is not a thing of the past.”
Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) was the sponsor of S.R. 66 along with several other co-sponsors. Sen. Baucus is all too familiar with the dangers of asbestos. In 2009, the town of Libby, Montana was declared a public health emergency by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The asbestos mining town was subject to dangerously high asbestos levels due to presences of a once-heavily used local asbestos mine. As a result, the citizens of Libby have experienced numerous cases of asbestos disease.
Asbestos is a carcinogen that was prominently used in the 1970s and is still used in the U.S. today. When a person inhales or ingests asbestos fibers, this exposure can lead to mesothelioma, lung cancer or asbestosis.
Baron and Budd was one of the first law firms to go after the asbestos industry over 35 years ago. Since then, the mesothelioma law firm has been committed to representing asbestos patients and their loved ones. The firm is a platinum sponsor of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), the largest independent victim’s organization in the U.S. Baron and Budd believes in ADAO’s mission to promote awareness on asbestos disease through education and to advocate for a global ban on asbestos.
