SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) March 25, 2013
Since its enactment, the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program has helped finance more than 2.6 million rental housing units and has leveraged billions in public and private investment capital. The recent extension and modification in H.R. 8 of a key tax provision that provides a 9 percent floor for LIHTC allocations made before 2014 will help LIHTC professionals continue to create jobs in low-income communities and help states meet the growing need for affordable housing.
With that in mind, Novogradac and Company LLP will welcome a cross section of developers, policy makers, lenders, attorneys, syndicators and local and state housing agency professionals to the Novogradac Affordable Housing Tax Credit Conference May 16-17 in New Orleans, to discuss strategies for meeting the increasing demand for affordable housing. Former Rep. Rick Lazio will deliver the keynote address to attendees at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel. During his four terms in the House, Mr. Lazio chaired the House Banking Subcommittee, and served as deputy majority whip and assistant majority leader. Mr. Lazio currently leads the housing and housing finance industry team at the law firm Jones Walker, where he focuses on issues of affordable housing and related housing finance.
“With his experience as a member of the Republican Housing Opportunity Caucus during his time in Congress, as well as leading the Jones Walker housing finance team, Rick Lazio is sure to offer a powerful perspective on the future of federal housing programs like the LIHTC,” says George F. Littlejohn, CPA, conference chair and partner in Novogradac & Company LLP’s Austin, Texas office. “In addition to hearing from Mr. Lazio, tax experts will walk attendees through case studies and example transactions that will ease the various complexities of LIHTC finance and development.”
Attendees can look forward to a special two-hour panel session where lenders and syndicators will use case studies and example transactions to discuss the current state of debt and equity markets. Additionally, panelists will explore timely topics such as partnership valuation, including examining LIHTC partnership valuation from the GP and LP perspective; public-private partnerships, including strategies on how to structure a public-private partnership for success; the best practices for tax structuring; an update on HUD financing; and more.
Participants will have ample opportunity to network with colleagues and speakers during the many breaks between sessions and at the reception held Thursday evening. The two-day event is worth 8.5 CPE credits.
For those wanting to brush up on the basics, a pre-conference workshop LIHTC 101: The Basics will be offered May 15. Registration is separate and optional. Additional fees apply.
