The Big Descent Line With Suunto Ambit On Saddle Peak

With all the multiple firmware updates these watches are undergoing its tough to keep up as they are certainly the fastest evolving GPS watch products the world has ever seen.

Bozeman, MT (PRWEB) March 25, 2013

Suunto Ambit GPS watch has been named the best adventure GPS watch for 2013 by the Heart Rate Watch Company.

"The term "adventure GPS watch" simply means mountains, back country, woods and any sports or outings you may have in such terrain", says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company. He adds, "We took the watch into some extreme terrain again a few weeks ago on a Saddle Peak ski outing".

THE ADVENTURE CATEGORY

There are several characteristics that are desirable in an adventure watch according to Squire. "First a barometric altimeter for more accurate weather and altitudes, an accurate compass and then GPS to help navigate in bad weather or situations with no horizon", says Squire. He adds, "It is also nice to have heart rate data, calorie data to plan hydration and re-fueling".

"Of all the watches that have tried to break into this category the Suunto Ambit stands out as being durable, accurate and constantly evolving", says Squire. He adds, "The Garmin fenix is close, chief tester John Yarington likes it better and for navigation purposes it has a lot more way points".

According to Squire these two watches, the Suunto Ambit and the Garmin fenix, have a substantial lead in the category.

"I just imagine skiing something like the Diagonal Chute on Saddle Peak where there is high exposure and 400 foot cliffs", says Squire. He adds, "If a white out came before the descent you'd be darn happy you carefully marked the route or you might go for a big ride".

SUUNTO AMBIT BETTER IN THE MOISTURE TOO

Suunto Ambit has proven to be more watertight, especially when compared to the first batch of Garmin fenix watches according to Squire. John Yarington took the Ambit diving off Columbia in May of 2012 and had no problems. "He was even using the watch to mark reefs and find them even faster than the local guide who subsequently wanted to purchase his Ambit", says Squire.

"We included some pictures and maps from the Saddle Peak outing so everyone could see how we use Ambit", says Squire. He adds, "It's also nice to measure vertical ascent, descent, top speeds, etc".

THE ALL-SEASON ADVENTURE WATCHES

Suunto Ambit and Garmin fenix make good partners for running, mountaineering, cycling, skiing and virtually any outdoor adventure. "The key is to get the recording intervals properly established because anything you do at higher speeds requires short recording intervals like 1 second", says Squire.

"With all the multiple firmware updates these watches are undergoing its tough to keep up as they are certainly the fastest evolving GPS watch products the world has ever seen", says Squire.
