It’s a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity to really give something back. I encourage sponsors and volunteers alike to get involved and help this great industry initiative.

AEC Cares will make something very special happen in Denver this June when it brings together leading industry professionals for a project to help the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. Working with Reed Construction Data, the AIA and Hanley Wood, “projectDenver” will mobilize architects, manufacturers and construction professionals to renovate the Coalition’s Beacon Place — a Denver facility that provides housing and health care assistance to homeless and disabled men and women. The project takes place on June 19, 2013.

“Every year, AEC Cares inspires the construction community to transform lives and create a lasting legacy for some of those who most need our support,” stated Iain Melville, CEO, Reed Construction Data and Board President, AEC Cares. “This year, we are excited to bring that collaboration to Denver and the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.”

The Coalition provides services for homeless individuals and families throughout Colorado. Their Beacon Place facility offers safe, stable housing specifically to disabled veterans and homeless men and women who are battling disabilities, serious medical challenges and mental illness. Beacon Place also opens its doors to adults who are suffering or recovering from illness or surgery, but have nowhere to go upon release from a hospital.

Scheduled to occur the day before the 2013 AIA National Convention, AEC Cares projectDenver will bring together Reed, Hanley Wood, the AIA and as many as 100 volunteers for the June 19 “blitz build” event. Denver-based leaders, Path21 Architecture, Layton Construction and Landwise Landscape Architecture have signed on, donating on-site skills and expertise to the project.

"Design and construction industry build shelter for their clients every day,” stated Mike Waldinger, Executive Director, AIA Illinois. “The people AEC Cares helps may never be in a position to be clients, but they need shelter and support from our partnership every bit as much. That's the beauty of the support made possible by our sponsors and volunteers.”

"Working together, we can make an amazing difference in the space of just one day,” agreed Iain Melville. "It’s a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity to really give something back, and I encourage sponsors and volunteers alike to get involved and help this great industry initiative.”
