Waffle House is opening nine new restaurants in the area. The first two were built in January and February of 2013 and are serving customers. The third is currently under construction just two blocks from the Super-Sod of Jacksonville Outlet from which thirteen pallets of TifBlair Centipede sod will be delivered within the next 30 days.
TifBlair Centipede sod was chosen for use at the Waffle House restaurants specifically because it is a drought tolerant turfgrass. There are more reasons TifBlair is ideal for low-maintenance business and corporate landscapes: low fertility requirements, slow growth (so less mowing needed), and heat tolerance.
The current project is using unpainted TifBlair Centipede. The previous two sites were landscaped in winter while the sod was dormant (think: brown, not green), so Super-Sod's Wintergreen Painted Sod option was used to brighten the new landscape installation. The dormant sod is "painted" with a safe, non-toxic green pigment that is sprayed on prior to harvesting at the sod farm. The pigment wears off in the spring when new growth resumes for the growing season.
