Swim Miami Presented by Nike will splash into South Florida on April 6. Over 800 swimmers, triathletes and weekend warriors from around the world will take over Watson Island for a fun filled weekend of Open Water Swimming challenges including the Marathon of Swimming: the 10K. Race Director Jonathan Strauss says "The event keeps growing every year because we make the atmosphere fun and safe for the competitors, plus who doesn't want to swim with such an amazing backdrop."
The weekend kicks off at 4PM on Friday April 5 with a clinic hosted by World Class Open Water swimmer Luane Rowe. The clinic will be an opportunity for the South Florida Community to polish their open water swimming skills and learn from one of the best in the industry. Following the clinic, swimmers registered in the race will check in and collect their official Swim Miami participant pack, see the latest and greatest of swim apparel from Sponsors Nike and Finis, and they can enjoy a carbo-loading Pasta Dinner hosted by the Miami Yacht Club and benefitting the Youth Sailing Foundation from 5:00PM - 9:00PM. The Races begin on Saturday morning at 8:00AM sharp.
We are proud to announce that young talent, Annaleise Carr, has confirmed her registration to race the 5K swim. Last August she swam 52.5 km across Lake Ontario in almost 27 hours in order to become the youngest ever to do so. She was only 14 years old. Her drive during the whole swim has been the wish to help Camp Trillium, a support centre for kids with cancer and their families. Annaleise was awarded the 2012 World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) Woman of the Year. She has raised over $250,000 through the efforts of her swim so far.
Registration is still available online for Swim Miami presented by Nike, via the event website SwimMiami.net. Proceeds of the event benefit the H2Os Foundation, an organization committed to providing learn to swim lessons to those that cannot afford the opportunity.
