With more than a decade of conducting business in the used textbook and online book business, MyBookBuyer knows better than most the barrier that the skyrocketing cost of textbooks creates for college students. The “Textbooks for a Year” scholarship was designed to help address the problems that the company had been hearing about from their growing base of student customers.
Online book buying company MyBookBuyer.com announces their bi-annual scholarship for college students, which gives them an opportunity to win a scholarship cash prize of $1,250, is now open. The essay contest was first established in 2009 to help bridge educational opportunities for students who are in need of financial assistance. Since its creation, the reception from both students and faculty staff from colleges and universities throughout the country has been tremendously positive. The growing popularity and positive feedback prompted the company to make the decision to continue to conduct it twice each year, first in the Spring and then again each Fall. All interested students and parties who would like to participate or help disseminate information to those who may benefit should visit their Textbooks For a Year Scholarship Winners webpage on the company site to read about some of the previous winners or to view their winning essays.
Essay submissions are now being accepted and the contest is open to actively enrolled full-time college students, who are U.S. Citizens or legal residents, and 18 years of age or older. This Spring 2013 new contest essay topic asks students to address the question, “Name one published author whom you greatly admire and write about some of the reasons why?” The contest guidelines require that the essay must be between 750 to 1250 words and submitted by using the MyBookBuyer.com Spring 2013 Scholarship Application Form at their website. The rules stipulate that each essay entry should include the use of one book as reference to help assist in supporting their position. All essays must be received on or before May 10, 2013 (midnight, P.S.T.) in order to qualify to receive consideration. The winning essay will be chosen by an impartial in-house committee, based solely upon the content, and the winner will be announced on May 31, 2013. Eligible students who would like to participate can visit the company website to obtain additional scholarship contest details or may also email the company using the contact information available on the site.
“Over the years, I have witnessed the textbook prices increasingly going out of control and students have told us time and time again how they need all of the help they can get,” says company founder Michael Der. “I’ve been repeatedly told that many of the students who sell textbooks on MyBookBuyer.com are just trying to find a way to help offset a portion of the rising cost of textbooks, which is a huge burden to them, along with the rising cost of tuition.”
The company decided to do something about it, offering the chance for qualified students to compete for the chance to win enough money to help pay for their textbooks for an entire year. That’s the reason why the MyBookBuyer Textbooks for a Year Scholarship Essay Contest was created. MyBookBuyer offers a grand prize which was designed to help cover textbook costs for a full academic year ($1,250) and relieve the burden of high textbook prices.
This past Fall, hundreds of students across the country responded to the Fall 2013 contest, submitting essays from their schools in California to New York, and most States in between. “Our company staff were both pleased and overwhelmed by the amazing response we received from all of the students,” says Mr. Der, “and we anticipate another successful Spring Scholarship.”
MyBookBuyer allows anyone with a computer to sell textbooks online for cash. Anyone seeking more information on the Textbooks for a Year Scholarship essay contest may do so by visiting the company Scholarship Webpage.
