University of La Verne President Dr. Devorah Lieberman has recently been elected to the Board of Directors of Campus Compact, an organization committed to furthering campus-based civic engagement in higher education.

Lieberman will join the national coalition comprised of more than 1,000 college and university presidents who are dedicated to promoting community service that helps their students develop relationships with their local communities.

“Civic engagement is a critical area of focus at the University of La Verne and for me, personally,” said La Verne President Dr. Devorah Lieberman. “To be elected to this board and have the opportunity to provide leadership with a group of individuals who all share the same purpose is an honor.”

Founded in 1985 in response to the media’s portrayal of college students as materialistic and self-absorbed, Campus Compact assists colleges and universities to create support structures that encourage their faculty to implement community service into their coursework. More than 98 percent of campuses involved with Campus Compact have at least one community partnership.

La Verne is no different and with The La Verne Experience, which fully immerses students in community service and enforces its significance for the betterment of the community and the students, Lieberman has made building and maintaining community relationships a priority of La Verne and will continue to do so as a member of the Campus Compact Board of Directors.

Campus Compact’s initiatives and ideals are closely aligned with La Verne’s mission of values orientation, community and diversity, lifelong learning and community service. With this new relationship, the university community will be challenged and encouraged to continue to develop its commitments to the community.
