Gurobi Optimization has released version 5.5 of its leading mathematical programming solver. This release includes a number of new features and capabilities, including new client-server features, an automatic parameter tuning tool, and other improvements users have requested.

New Automatic Parameter Tuning Tool
The Gurobi Optimizer includes dozens of parameters that can be used to fine-tune the behavior of our optimization algorithms. For many models, parameter changes can improve performance by 50% or more. To help users make more effective parameter choices, version 5.5 includes a new automatic parameter tuning tool. This tool can be used as a stand-alone executable or called directly from the Gurobi programming language APIs.
New Client-Server Capabilities
Optimization based applications are used by more people inside a given organization and are more critical to a business' success than ever before. As a result, such applications often have a number of complex requirements placed upon them. For example, they may be required to support multiple simultaneous users running on a variety of computing platforms, they may need to meet stringent uptime goals, or they may need to be able to handle spikes in user demand.
The new Gurobi Compute Server is designed to greatly simplify the task of building and deploying such applications. The system combines a client library that seamlessly offloads optimization tasks to powerful servers with server software that manages all aspects of processing these jobs, including queuing, load balancing, and failover. The result is a powerful system that makes it easier to build scalable, reliable applications.
In addition to the above enhancements, in v5.5 we’ve also responded to user requests for the following features: a) a concurrent MIP solver offering a new option for exploiting multiple cores, b) a faster and more numerically robust implementation of barrier crossover factorization, c) a new NumericFocus parameter that triggers more conservative strategies for numerically difficult models, and d) other numerical stability improvements.
