We congratulate John Dickson and greatly appreciate his contributions to this association and the international cybersecurity industry.
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) April 09, 2013
Denim Group, the leading secure software development company, announced today that principal John Dickson has been named a Distinguished Fellow by the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) for its Winter 2013 Fellow Program. ISSA is the community of choice for international cybersecurity professionals dedicated to advancing individual growth, managing technology risk, and protecting critical information and infrastructure.
Twice each year an exemplary group of long-term ISSA members are recognized in three categories: Distinguished Fellows, Fellows and Senior Members. These individuals have distinguished themselves in advancing the professionalism, stature and influence of information security professionals through serving as leaders of ISSA and significantly contributing to the cybersecurity community as well as to chapter leadership and/or the international or national security posture. Honorees are selected by the Fellow Selection Committee and voted on by the ISSA International Board of Directors.
“The Fellow Program attracts a highly competitive pool of candidates and I am pleased to announce that five Distinguished Fellows and eight Fellows have been chosen during the winter 2013 selection cycle. In addition, eighty long-time members from 35 chapters have been awarded Senior Member status,” said George Proeller, ISSA Fellow Chair. “We congratulate John Dickson and greatly appreciate his contributions to this association and the international cybersecurity industry.”
As a Distinguished Fellow, Dickson is being recognized for both his exceptional service to the security community as well as the significant contributions he has made to the local, state and national security posture. With over 12 years membership in the association, more than 10 years of documented exceptional service to the security community and more than 5 years as a leader in the association and in the community, Dickson’s accomplishments during that time earned him the honor. Not only did he help start the local ISSA chapter more than 10 years ago, his recent tenure as President enabled the Alamo Chapter to also be honored as Chapter of the Year in 2010.
In addition to his service to ISSA, Dickson has also served as chairman of a major metropolitan chamber of commerce in San Antonio, chaired a regional economic development organization, and is currently President of the Texas Lyceum, a statewide leadership organization comprised of numerous elected officials and CEO’s. Dickson is currently working with Chamber of Commerce leaders and the State of Texas agency security official to propose legislation to the Texas Legislature that will further enhance privacy protections and breach notification for Texans.
He is also part of the United States Air Force Space Command Commanders Group, advising four-star Generals on cyber security issues relating to the defense of our country. In that role, Dickson serves as the honorary commander for the 67th Network Warfare Wing, the US Air Force’s preeminent unit charged with defending Air Force networks and attacking the networks of our nation’s adversaries.
“I am honored to be selected as a Distinguished Fellow by the leading worldwide security organization in our industry – ISSA,” Dickson said. “I’ve had a front row seat on the rapidly evolving security industry since my tenure in the Air Force in the mid 1990’s and have enjoyed every bit of it. I consider it a privilege to have been in the position to share my knowledge and experience with others.”
The ISSA Fellows and Distinguished Fellows were honored at the ISSA Member Reception during the RSA Conference 2013 on February 26 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
“As ISSA Fellow Program members, these individuals participate in an elite group of learned professionals who work together as peers in the pursuit of service, knowledge and excellence for the benefit of the information security field. They are an inspiration to us all,” added Ira Winkler, ISSA President.
