On April 5, healthy food manufacturer Quorn comments on an article published by the Examiner, which details Bill Gates’ vigorous anti-meat campaign.
According to the Examiner, vegetarian billionaire Bill Gates recently became vocal about his thoughts on plant-based diets. Vegetarian diets are more sustainable than meat-based diets because meat production emits greenhouse gases. Livestock produces more than half of the greenhouse gases in the world, Gates says in the article, and the consumption of meat is expected to drop by 2050.
David Wilson, representative of healthy food manufacturer Quorn, agrees with Gates by saying consuming less meat could help reduce the amount of greenhouse gases. “Livestock produces a lot of carbon dioxide just from breathing,” he says. “They also produce methane and nitrous oxide. With the production of meat expected to increase, these gases will pose a tremendous danger to the environment.”
Wilson says having a high-profile supporter like Bill Gates could really benefit the meat-substitute industry. “People are more likely to listen to someone they know in the public eye and someone they trust,” he says. “Perhaps if more icons learn about the benefits of reducing meat consumption, the public will be more likely to join in on the cause.”
Quorn, Wilson adds, has an extensive menu of great tasting meat-reducing meals available for those trying to eat healthy. “We have burgers, chicken nuggets, meatballs, and other items that meat-eaters love, without the bad stuff,” he says. “The chicken nuggets taste and look like real white meat chicken, so it could be appealing for people that eat meat as well. We provide options for people to eat healthier. Our products have a lot of protein, less sodium and fewer calories than most other meat dishes. If people ate more plant-based meat substitutes, perhaps we could reduce the environmental damage caused by meat production.”
Looking for a healthy alternative to meat? Unlike other meatless food companies, Quorn uses mycoprotein: a healthy, naturally occurring alternative protein source that replicates the taste and texture of meat, while being significantly lower in saturated fats and calories. Quorn Foods offer a wide range of products, including ready-to-serve meals, snacks, and food for your barbecue -- as well as ingredients to make your own nutritious, meat-free dishes from scratch. The wonderful taste of Quorn's meatless meals lets you experience the foods you love without sacrificing nutrition.
