From 3 to 7 April, the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad will present the XVI Patriotic Song Festival hosted in the city of Sochi. During the Festival, spectators will be able to enjoy traditional army and Cossack songs performed by members of the Russian military and CIS countries. The festival will conclude with a public gala concert at Arts Square in the center of Sochi with performances from the winners of the contest.
The event will attract artists and musical groups from Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Armenia. In total, there will be over 620 artists performing, including officers, soldiers, reserve officers, cadets from middle and senior military colleges, Cossack formations and representatives of various ministries.
During the Festival in Winter Theater in Sochi, applicants will be asked to enter in one of the following categories: "Music groups", "Wind bands", "Soloists from singing and dance groups", "Singer-songwriters", "Singers of songs by professional composers" and "Performers of Cossack songs".
Their performances will be assessed by a professional judging panel. Everyone taking part in the festival will receive a diploma. The winners of the competition will be given commemorative prizes and valuable gifts.
The Festival's artistic director, Tatiana Voronina, commented:
"The sixteenth Festival of patriotic song is an important part of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad and will help instill patriotism across Russia."
The Festival of patriotic song will conclude with a spectacular gala concert on Arts Square in Sochi. Local people and visitors to the Olympic host city will be given the opportunity to listen to some Cossack and army songs.

The fourth year of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is devoted to museums. As in previous years, the organizers of the first Olympic Winter Games in the history of Russia will put hundreds of the best cultural events and exhibitions on show for the public.
The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is a unique project from the organizers of the Games, representing the best cultural events in the country. In 2014, visitors to the Olympic host city will not only be able to evaluate the sporting competitions, but also Russia's cultural diversity at dozens of performance venues located in Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana. Since 2010, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, along with dozens of regions around the country, has been carefully selecting the best that Russian culture has to offer.
Between 2010 and 2014, thousands of diverse cultural events are taking place throughout the entire country. Each year, the Cultural Olympiad is dedicated to a different art form: 2010 was the Year of the Cinema, 2011 - the Year of the Theater, 2012 - the Year of Music, and 2013 is the Year of the Museum.

The Patriotic Song Festival is an event at which military officers from various regions and types of force come together and engage in friendly, creative competition. It has been staged in Sochi for 16 years. The competition traditionally features both newcomers and people who took part in the very first festivals. The Festival has taken place under the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad since 2010.
