The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP), along with its partners, the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA), the American Red Cross and the World Waterpark Association (WWA), is again bringing together aquatics professionals from around the nation to help reinforce the importance of safe swimming this May as part of National Water Safety Month.

A myriad of tools, including tip sheets, swimming rules, videos and posters, are available on the National Water Safety Month website, NationalWaterSafetyMonth.org. Organizations can also find valuable information to share with the public on National Water Safety Month’s dedicated Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr pages.

“The safe use of swimming pools, hot tubs and other recreational water facilities is a priority for everyone,” APSP President and CEO Bill Weber said. “National Water Safety Month serves to focus on the importance of water safety in all types of swimming environments. We encourage organizations nationwide to join us at NationalWaterSafetyMonth.org in promoting water safety.”

National organizations such as the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA), the National Swimming Pool Foundation, the USA Swimming Foundation and the International Code Council have also pledged to encourage members to get involved in water safety activities and programs throughout May.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), with its Pool Safely campaign, continues to raise awareness as well. Its “Simple Steps Save Lives” program offers a variety of materials to consumers and organizations, all helping to raise awareness for proper drain cover use, safe swimming, adult supervision and swimming lessons.

APSP encourages other organizations to participate. Visit NationalWaterSafetyMonth.org to learn more about the campaign, events and activities to help others swim safely.
