On April 10, 2013, PRO Compression congratulates marathon runner Larry Macon, who successfully completed his 1,012th race in Corpus Christi, Texas. Macon finished the marathon in six hours and 32 minutes, according to a recent article published in Caller.
According to the Caller article, last year Macon set a record when he logged 4,113 miles after completing 157 marathons. Macon didn’t run the entire Corpus Christi marathon, but he did keep a pace which had him clocking just under 15 minutes for every mile.
The article describes how Macon is different from other runners. He manages to go through a pair of shoes each month, something that comes with competing in so many races. And while other marathon runners usually have headphones and an iPod, Macon passes the time during his races by talking with fellow runners, and taking in the scenery on the way to the finish line.
Macon was quoted in the article as saying, “I think about how wonderful life is and isn’t it great?” Beautiful day like this and I’m talking to wonderful people.” When asked which race was his favorite, Macon simply replied, “the one I ran today.”
The article goes on to state that at 68, it doesn’t look like Macon will be slowing down anytime soon. When asked if he’s going to ease off in the future, Macon replied “I always tell myself that[;] then it changes.”
PRO Compression, creator of graduated compression socks for runners, congratulates Macon on his recent completion of his 1,1012th marathon. “It’s truly an impressive feat,” says CEO Eric Smith. “You look at Larry and see someone who never gives up, and is constantly pushing himself to be better. Over a thousand marathons! It boggles the mind. He’s 68, and refuses to slow down. Only a runner can understand that kind of dedication. His mentality is an inspiration, and we at PRO Compression hope he goes on to complete many more marathons.”
