Brian Latell, a Latin America and Caribbean specialist, an adjunct professor and senior research associate at the Institute for Cuban American Studies at the University of Miami, and a retired CIA agent and National Intelligence Council officer, enthralled the crowd at the monthly meeting of the North Passage Yacht Club in Tequesta.
The event opened with a social hour and a book-signing prior to the presentation. Latell is the author of Castro’s Secrets: The CIA and Cuba’s Intelligence Machine. One critic described the book as a “riveting look inside Cuban intelligence…worthy of the pages of Tom Clancy….” Another said it is “an authoritative expose” of the longtime intelligence battle between the United States and Cuba.”
“We are honored to have the privilege of hosting Mr. Latell as a special guest speaker for our members,” said Commodore John Buckman, founder of the North Passage Yacht Club. “He offers a fascinating perspective on U.S. and Latin American and Cuban policymaking and intelligence.”
The North Passage Yacht Club advocates recreational boating, networking and social activities among its membership and plans educational events and conservation programs to encourage member interaction. Residents with homes in North Passage, as well as nonresidents, can join.
