On April 8, Linus Bike offers commentary in response to Jersey City’s new initiatives promoting the use of city bikes.
The NJ.com blog informs that Bike JC, a group of Jersey City bicycling supporters, is behind the move to institute a couple of new programs for the city. The aim of Bike JC is to enlist the city council’s help in driving an initiative that will install more infrastructures to accommodate parking for city bikes.
NJ.com reports that the numbers of bikers in the city have grown and that accommodating this growing demographic would make good business sense for various establishments.
A new fund to facilitate the installation of bike racks is cited as a new measure to effectively support bike rack installations. NJ.com adds that the previous program was met with little success but the new program requires a business to make a returnable donation if the location is deemed appropriate for a bike rack.
According to NJ.com, residential buildings will be required to have a certain amount of indoor parking. A host of large public buildings, to include schools, hospitals, and municipal buildings, are obligated to provide a parking area for bikes that spans ten percent of available parking space.
Linus Bike representative, China Reevers, offers a commentary praising Jersey City’s move toward a more biker friendly environment. “Jersey City has some fantastic goals and I hope to see more like it in other urban areas. I firmly believe that any city can be city bike friendly if the city allows it. Bike riding is such a practical form of transport it makes sense to encourage it.”
