"This campaign will raise funds that directly benefit our community by allowing us to purchase new shoes for children in need right here at home."

Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) April 08, 2013

Shoes 4 Kids is conducting a Central Florida community-wide "Spring Cleaning Shoe Drive" April 8-May 31, 2013 to collect all types of used shoes. All donated shoes will be redistributed through micro-enterprise partners and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start, maintain and grow an enterprise to feed, clothe and house their families. Shoes 4 Kids USA will also receive funds to buy new shoes for Central Florida children.

In the U.S. alone, approximately 630 million pairs of shoes are thrown away each year. The materials used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds, the kind that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By donating shoes to Shoes 4 Kids, what would have gone into landfills will be repurposed and given a second chance to make a difference.

“We are very excited to be conducting this shoe drive in Central Florida" notes Tyrone McFarland, Executive Director of Shoes 4 Kids. "This campaign will raise funds that directly benefit our community by allowing us to purchase new shoes for children in need right here at home. The additional advantages of diverting shoes from the waste stream and creating commerce and sustaining peoples’ lives make this a win-win for everyone,” said McFarland. "Our goal is to collect 500,000 pairs of shoes and the only way we can do that is if people step up and help. I am calling on everyone in our community to gather up their unwanted shoes and bring them to one of our collection boxes."

Shoes will be accepted in all conditions and shoe donations can be made at collection boxes throughout Central Florida. For a list of collection sites, please visit the "Drop Off Locations" page on the Shoes 4 Kids USA website.
