Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) April 07, 2013

On April 7, 2013, Rapid Recovery Solution issues a response to an article in the US News and World Report that discusses the fact that Americans have been voluntarily gifting money to the government to help reduce the national debt, as part of the Treasury's “Gift Contributions to Reduce Debt Held by the Public” program.

According to the recent article on US News and World Report by Danielle Kurtleben, “Americans gave over $7.7 million in gifts to the Treasury in fiscal year 2012 to reduce public debt. That's well over twice as much as in 2011, when they gave $3.3 million, and is more than in 2011 and 2010 combined. It also dwarfs any amount of gifts from the last 10 years.”

Kurtzleben puts the amount gifted in perspective, pointing out that while it soared past the donation levels from recent years, it equates to only around two cents per American citizen. “In addition, it is around 0.00005 percent of the total outstanding public debt,” she says.

She continues to suggest that the reasons for the dramatic spike in 2012 donation numbers are unclear, saying that a Treasury spokesperson interviewed had no satisfying explanation. However, the spokesperson suggested that the amount of media attention the issue of the U.S. National debt has received may have “increased awareness of and attention to the gift program.”

Kurtzleben concludes that, unforunatley, 2013 is so far “looking to be a much more lackluster year. In the first five months of this fiscal year, Americans gave just over $900,000 to the Treasury. That puts the Treasury on pace to receive around $2.2 million dollars in gifts this year.”

John Monderine, CEO of the collection services agency Rapid Recovery Solution, comments that this seems to indicate a commendable trend of people actively trying to help out their country. “The numbers break down so that the amount donated during last year – a peak year – add up to about two cents per individual. Imagine if everyone who could afford to do so donated three cents! That would be a game-changer. Those who can't spare the change can do their part by staying debt-free and taking care of any loans or expenses that they do incur. Your personal debt affects the bigger picture, too.”
