Luxury watch seller Watches of Switzerland is pleased to welcome a new, perhaps unfamiliar name to their prestigious roster: 88 Rue du Rhone.
Founded just 2 years ago in the spring of 2011, 88 Rue du Rhone has already taken significant steps to prominence in a time that other new brands would be green with envy at. They have strong horological pedigree: the brand was co-founded by Elie and Pierre Bernheim, grandsons of the great Raymond Weil, with a view to setting up the brand for the next generation of watch lovers. Though the name might, quite rightly, bring up images of a home nestled in the famous Genevan Rue du Rhone, in fact this is a fictional address, constructed with a bit of imagination and a good bit of luck on the brothers’ part.
Already worn by stars including Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Silverman – who both graced this year’s BAFTA red carpet wearing 88 Rue du Rhone pieces – the brand has swiftly and steadily amassed a reputation for contemporary, quality, but ultimately affordable watches.
Double 8 Origin is the first collection from 88 Rue du Rhone, and features a fantastic selection of both gentlemen’s and ladies’ watches, all with Swiss-made mechanical or quartz movements. The look and feel is very much tailored to the smart and young, and this audience is reflected in the price; most of the collection’s pieces are expected to be available for between £275 and £835.
The selection includes the Double 8 Origin 42mm automatic, a stainless steel automatic which showcases the beauty and elegance of the brand without the ostentation of many modern watches. The classic black dial, with its silver and black indexes, are offset by the red ‘8’ seconds hand that complements the slick chic and timeless nature of the piece. The Double 8 Origin 42mm automatic is water resistant to 50m.
One for the ladies is the Double 8 Origin Ladies 35mm quartz, a classic yet modern piece which features an open white dial, 11 diamond indexes and a crisp white alligator leather strap. Feminine and bold, it’s truly a piece to admire.
