Bluehost, a member of the Endurance International Group and a leading provider of cloud-based online solutions for small- and medium-sized businesses, has renewed its commitment to Code for America by making a contribution to the non-profit organization for the second year in a row.

Since 2009, Code for America has used open-source code to improve the efficiency and transparency of local governments through three main initiatives: connecting governments with developers and designers; providing funding, office space and mentorship to civic startups; and by helping community groups reuse civic software.

“The way Code for America has used creative coding to introduce new services to municipal governments, while saving them time and money, is transformative,” explains Hari Ravichandran, Founder and CEO of Endurance. “But what’s even more impressive is that they’ve done it mostly through open-source code, much like we used to architect the Bluehost infrastructure. We are really excited to see what they can accomplish, and our team is eager to find new and different ways to be a part of achieving their vision of improving local governments.”

“Our team is incredibly grateful for Bluehost’s involvement,” continued Jennifer Pahlka, Code for America’s Founder and Executive Director. “The financial and social contributions from Bluehost and Endurance empower us to make a greater impact in local government. Like us, Bluehost and Endurance believe that the tech world should give back. We have a deep appreciation for the commitment they have made to helping make the web a better, more accessible place for everyone—governments, small businesses, developers, and citizens. We are hoping their involvement will inspire others to join the movement.”

In the upcoming year, Bluehost plans on taking their involvement to the next level by working to engage their employees and customers in Code for America projects. “The Bluehost community is full of talented open-source developers, and we think there’s a lot they can—and will want to—contribute to Code for America,” states Jared Smith, Bluehost’s Director of Open Source Outreach. “Code for America has already made a tremendous impact on municipal governments, but there’s still so much potential. We’re excited to work alongside our customers, and the Code for America team, to see what we can achieve!”
