Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) April 10, 2013
La Peer Health Systems is pleased to announce the launch of a new website for the Hand Surgery Center of Excellence, a sub-division of the Beverly Hills surgical center focused on the treatment of a wide variety of hand conditions: http://www.HandSurgeonMD.com.
“Our goal is for the site to serve as a comprehensive resource for individuals suffering from hand injuries,” said Dr. Amir Tahernia, a fellowship-trained hand surgeon and director of the Hand Surgery Center of Excellence.
The team of doctors at the Hand Surgery Center consists of expertly trained plastic and orthopedic surgeons who are leaders in their respective fields. By employing top experts and utilizing only the most cutting-edge technologies, the Center can ensure that each patient receives individualized care and optimal relief for hand conditions.
The Hand Surgery Center of Excellence focuses primarily on two very common hand conditions – carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger. Carpal tunnel syndrome describes the compression of the median nerve in the wrist, a condition that causes irritation throughout the hand. Trigger finger occurs when inflammation of tendons in the hand causes the fingers to catch or become stuck in a bent position. Both of these conditions can cause pain, numbness, and progressive weakening of the hand and fingers if left untreated.
“Many people suffer from chronic hand and finger pain that is due to carpal tunnel or trigger finger, both of which are highly treatable conditions,” explained Dr. Tahernia. “We offer several therapeutic options for carpal tunnel and trigger finger that can be tailored specifically to our patients' needs.”
According to Dr. Tahernia, a simple procedure known as release surgery provides the most effective long-term relief for most cases of carpal tunnel and trigger finger. At the Hand Surgery Center of Excellence, the doctors utilize a minimally invasive approach for release surgery. The procedure involves a small incision in the hand (2-3 cm), followed by the release of compression around the nerve or tendon responsible for carpal tunnel and trigger finger. Patients who undergo this outpatient procedure generally experience immediate relief from their symptoms and can return to normal activities within several weeks of surgery.
Other injuries treated at the Hand Surgery Center of Excellence include hand fractures and tendon and nerve damage. In many cases, these injuries can severely impact hand function. By utilizing the most advanced techniques, surgeons can perform many of these procedures necessary to treat these serious conditions on an outpatient basis.
In addition to providing the highest quality of care for patients, the Hand Surgery Center of Excellence strives to give back to the community. To accomplish this goal, the doctors donate a portion of their proceeds to Health Volunteers Overseas, a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the availability and quality of health care in developing countries through the training and education of local health care providers.
The Hand Surgery Center of Excellence is headed up by its Medical Director, Amir Tahernia, MD. Dr. Tahernia is a fellowship-trained hand surgeon and double-board certified in general and plastic surgery. He has trained at some of the country's most prestigious medical institutions and has expertise in the comprehensive treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger. Additionally, the Hand Surgery Center of Excellence houses a team of renowned orthopedic surgeons who possess extensive training in sports related injuries, including injuries to the hand. All of our surgeons perform a variety of outpatient procedures at La Peer Health Systems.
