The safety of GMOs have been under much public scrutiny lately. According to recent news reports, Whole Foods has mandated labeling for all GMO products by 2018.

GMOs are created using gene splicing biotechnology that merges DNA from different species. The results are unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial, and viral genes that cannot occur in nature. GMOs are created for a number of reasons, one of which is to help make a crop resistant to pesticides without fear of the crop being damaged. Genetic modification is common in corn and soy production so HVP’s are particularly at high risk for containing GMOs. GMOs are now part of an ongoing national conversation, due to efforts by various advocacy groups as well as individual states considering their own mandatory labeling laws.
