In response to an article published on Philly.com discussing a rebound in the mom & pop hardware industry in Philadelphia, Bay Fastening Systems issues a response.

On April 22, Bay Fastening Systems reacts to news that mom & pop hardware stores are on the rebound in Philadelphia. An article on Philly.com, titled “Mom-and-Pop Hardware Stores See Resurgence,” highlights Stanley's True Value Hardware on Ridge Avenue in Roxborough as one example of the strength of mom & pop hardware stores in the city.

According to the article, the owners of the Stanley’s, Mark and Joseph Jaconski, are in the middle of tripling the size of their family-owned hardware store. The upgraded store will have “a big place with wide aisles, everything in view on the shelves, space for a tool and party-rental operation and flowers and shrubs, and a storage area for lumber, like their big-box competitors.”

The Jaconskis are asked in the article if they think that mom & pop hardware stores will disappear in favor of big-box competitors. "Heck, no," Mark Jaconski is quoted as saying. "We are at the other end of the spectrum. We're the third generation in this store, and what we're doing is getting it ready for the next one."

Although not every mom & pop hardware store is as successful as the Jaconskis’, the article cites data from IBISWorld that estimates the hardware store industry’s revenue to grow 2 percent this year, with growth continuing through the year 2018.

“Because we interact with hardware stores in our line of business, we are happy to hear that mom & pop stores will continue to exist in the industry landscape”, says Melissa Finnell “Mom & pop stores are important to the local economy, and can offer customers a personal shopping experience that big box stores can’t. If a customer walks into a mom & pop hardware store in search of a pop rivet, we are sure they will experience better guidance and direction to make the right choice for their application. It’s just natural for Mom & Pop stores to become more knowledgeable in the products they carry.”
