On April 22, Colle Farmers Market responds to an article published by the New York Daily News, which discusses the increase of organic food for pets.

According to the article published by the New York Daily News, many pet stores in Queens and New York City are carrying organic food. As pet owners begin to adopt healthier lifestyles, the article says they are also making changes to their pets’ diets. Skillman Pets in Woodside, NY had to restock shelves several times in the past year to keep up with organic pet food demands. The article says feeding your pets organic food is similar to feeding a human organic food because the results will be similar.

In the article, Skillman Pets employee Paula Gutierrez says, “We try to make sure our products don’t have artificial flavors because that’s what people want for their dogs right now. I think it’s healthier. I think it’s better for dogs and customers do, too.”

A representative from Colle Farmers Market says organic food is popular because it does not contain additives or unnatural flavors. “Much of the dog food out there contains questionable ingredients,” the rep says. “With organic food for pets, owners can be confident that they are feeding healthy food to their animals. This could help with digestion as well, considering some unnatural ingredients might be too harsh for the digestive system.”

When looking for organic pet food, the Colle rep suggests looking at the ingredients first or making your own. “Organic pet food is not entirely regulated by the USDA, so it’s important to look at all of the ingredients before you make a purchase,” the rep says. “Many people also suggest making your own organic food. You can grow your own vegetables and purchase USDA regulated meat to make food for your pets.”

Sustainability is also an advantage of organic pet food. The Colle rep says organic food poses less harm to the environment so pets could live a healthier life on a healthier planet.

Colle Farmers Market is an E-Commerce enabled farmers market community that is passionate about sustainable consumption and responsible conservation. The Colle movement is dedicated to connecting natural product vendors, organic farmers and all people who are living an organic and natural lifestyle.
