The Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, is expected to play host to one of the most exciting fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championships, as fighter Mike “the Hulk” Easton, Team Lloyd Irvin, continues to remain confident about his chances of defeating Brad Pickett on April the 6th. After facing his first loss in the Octagon on December the 8th of last year, Easton is more determined than ever to train hard and achieve a clear victory against the British Bantamweight.
The long awaited fight is considered to be one of the most interesting match-offs in the UFC with both fighters being extremely skilled black belt holders – Easton in BJJ and Pickett in MMA – and eager to face each other in a fight with an extremely difficult to predict outcome.
Easton has recently stated that he relies mainly on the fact that he is a more technical fighter, and has better defensive skills than his opponent, while still having the knockout power necessary to challenge Pickett in a fight of this proportion. He had also remarked that he is well-aware of the British fighter’s reputation; however, he is confident that he knows precisely how the fight will play off.
According to experts, Easton does have a tactical advantage, and, despite some of Pickett’s bold remarks, putting on a show is not likely to help him against an opponent of Mike Easton’s value.
Also, the upcoming fight is expected to put a lot more pressure on the British Bantamweight, as even in the event that Brad Pickett wins, as he admitted himself, his victory is not likely to help him too much with his aspirations of securing the UFC Bantamweight Championship without an additional win.
Despite the recent challenges that both fighters had to face, “The Hulk” is still seen by many as having the best chance in winning the match due to his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills (learned while fighting under Team Lloyd Irvin), which managed to earn him the title of UWC Bantamweight Champion in 2009 in a memorable match against Chase Beebe which was the main fighting event of the year, Easton’s win still being seen as one of the most controversial decisions in MMA history.
Despite only having signed up with the UFC 2 years ago, Mike Easton’s prolific MMA record, as well as his remarkable UFC victory against Ivan Menjivar in July 2012 with a unanimous decision makes him an extremely worthy opponent, and Brad Pickett himself stated that he knows how Easton likes to come forward in his fights, considering the fight to be “a tricky one, even on the ground.”
Easton admitted that his strategy is to fight smart and keep a high punch count, the BJJ black belt being extremely confident that his training will help him turn the fight into a tactical one and block Pickett’s every move.
Experts and fans of the two fighters alike continue to wait impatiently, as tensions run high in expectation to one of the most awaited fights of the year.
