Windward, a leading provider of data display software, has added support for OData document generation to its wide array of supported data formats and standards. This allows businesses and organizations that use the Open Data Protocol for querying data to better understand and analyze their vital information.
"We are one of the first document generation and reporting companies to support OData," says David Thielen, Windward's founder and CTO. "It is an increasingly important capability for organizations that rely on the powerful Web protocol to unlock their data."
Using Windward, companies are able to take their OData data and insert it into templates designed in Microsoft Word and Excel using the new OData Wizard. Reports and documents are generated in the Windward Engine, which is available for .NET or Java, or via the web-based Javelin server. The final product can be output in a wide range of formats, including DOCX, XLSX, PDF, HTML, direct to printer, RTF, XLS, WordML, TXT, and CSV.
OData is latest in a long line of data sources that Windward supports. In addition to OData, Windward solutions directly support data stored in SQL databases, XML files, Excel spreadsheets, SharePoint lists and REST databases without the need for a lengthy and painful re-rendering process.

"We bought White Clarke's CALMS as our Loan Origination System, and it uses Windward to produce legal documents. With our previous system, we could not add or change documents, and so had to live with whatever we had, or devise a Word template. Windward is an enabler for us."– Wayne Cook, Community Savings Bank
