The Washington State Senate last month passed a bill 47-2, followed by a 65-28 House confirmation last week, requiring that all construction products including any form of ‘asbestos containing product’ be accompanied by a warning label clearly informing buyers of the potential health risks. Senator Andy Billig (D-Spokane) proposed the legislation; ratification is now left to Gov. Jay Inslee. (http://www.spokesman.com/blogs/spincontrol/2013/apr/09/asbestos-labellling-passes-house/). Baron and Budd asbestos lawyers applaud this move forward by the state of Washington and hope that other states will follow suit.
"This legislation is a step in the right direction," say the mesothelioma lawyers at Baron and Budd. "We hope this sets an example for other states."
Previously, ordinary construction products have sometimes listed asbestos ingredients as "mineral fibers or chrysotile, a form of white asbestos.” Sometimes asbestos has not been listed at all (http://www.columbian.com/news/2013/mar/16/washington-senate-approves-asbestos-labeling-legis/). Though the word ‘chrysotile’ has been used in some former labeling, many Americans are unfamiliar with the word as it relates to the general term ‘asbestos.’
Nationally recognized mesothelioma law firm Baron and Budd was founded in 1977 to protect the rights of consumers. The firm’s cornerstone practice is asbestos and mesothelioma litigation. The firm handled one of the first asbestos lawsuits ever filed and continues to achieve precedent-setting results in the courtroom today for asbestos patients.
