In a recent article depicting the effectiveness of new non-invasive fat removal procedure CoolSculpting by Zeltiq, the treatment was dubbed a “lunchtime” procedure due to it's ease and non-surgical nature. Jodi Slavica, RN at the CENTER for Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills, explains how CoolSculpting works to successfully remove unwanted fat in 1-3 quick and easy office treatments.
“CoolSculpting is a new treatment that actually freezes a patients fat, which in turn causes the fat cells in the targeted area to die off and the body then reabsorbs them,” said Nurse Jodi. “The treatment can be performed on a number of areas prone to stubborn fat, including the back, love handles, stomach, and muffin top.”
CoolSculpting is entirely non-invasive and takes between 1-3 hours to perform correctly. When the patient arrives for their treatment, the device is placed onto the target area where it will stay for the remainder of their stay. When the device is on, it’s common for the patient to feel a cold, sucking sensation, though this diminishes as the procedure continues. During a CoolSculpting treatment at the CENTER with Nurse Jodi, patients are free to read a book, work on a laptop, and even nap.
“The ideal candidate for CoolSculpting is an individual who wants to target small areas rather than large areas of excess fat. If you go to the gym and work out regularly but just can’t seem to shake fat in certain areas, that person might be an excellent candidate for the treatment,” said Jodi Slavica, RN in Beverly Hills.
Depending on the area being treated, a patient may need to undergo one or two CoolSculpting treatments to ensure the best results are seen. Because CoolSculpting works by killing fat cells, final results from the treatment continue to improve over the course of the next few months. At the CENTER for Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills, Nurse Jodi explains that it isn’t uncommon for patients to notice a loss of a few inches.
“Though results are different for each individual, we're able to target specific fatty areas that can bring the patient the best results possible. Three months after a treatment, patients can appreciate the final outcome,” said Nurse Jodi.
