The Grommet, an online shopping site and product launch platform for innovative and undiscovered products, is working with local solar products company, Wikoda, to feature Sunflower, an outdoor solar light.
The Grommet is proud to feature the Sunflower home heliostat as it's a unique problem solver that is made locally in Massachusetts. The pinwheel-shaped device tracks the sun throughout the day and uses angled mirrors to redirect sunbeams to wherever they’re lacking—in a room starved of natural light, for instance, or a garden that’s too shady. It runs on solar power, so there are no batteries or wires to manipulate.
One can set up the Sunflower to reflect light toward a specific target at a certain time of day. It can pour light into a kitchen window every morning, for example. The target has a range, so as the day passes, reflected light may travel over the surface of your house and shine into other rooms, too.
The creators of the Sunflower are engineers WiCher Lim and John Koger, who are striving to make solar products more affordable, less complicated, and more mainstream. Their heliostat is ideal for people who’d like to work with solar energy but didn’t know where to begin. Increasing the natural light in homes is a great start—natural light can alleviate eye strain caused by fluorescent lighting, and it can help offset seasonal affective disorder. Using natural light to brighten a home can also decrease your electricity consumption and carbon footprint.
About The Grommet
The Grommet is a highly curated online marketplace and launch platform for products of great utility, style or invention that haven’t hit the big-time yet. The Grommet seeks out these unique products, carefully tests them, and produces a video review of each one telling the story behind its creation. The Grommet is rooted in the philosophy of Citizen Commerce whereby regular people form the commerce experience by suggesting products that reflect their values and interests. Citizen Commerce turns the typical top down retailer approach sideways, encourages global product innovation from small producers, and satisfies the consumer’s need to know the stories behind and origins of favorite products. The company was also just named one of the hottest sites of 2013 by Internet Retailer. For more information, visit http://www.TheGrommet.com.
