On April 24, Linus Bike offers a supporting statement in favor of Bike Collective, a bicycle club on the California State University, Northridge (CSUN) campus.
According to an article on the institution’s online campus newspaper site, Bike Collective is “an on-campus community of CSUN student cyclists whose sole mission is to provide mechanical resources, safety information, advocacy for and the establishment of a communal base for those who commute, and get across campus via bicycles.” The club’s emphasis is on “empowering commuters to take an alternative and sustainable mode of transportation to CSUN.”
The group carries through their mission by hosting local bike rides and tours, holding weekly on-campus bike clinics, and offering free repairs and advocates for bicycle infrastructures on their campus.
Group member David De La Cruz told the campus online newspaper that he is hopeful that their efforts will eventually extend beyond the CSUN campus.
“If you want to expose yourself to a movement that is currently developing throughout Los Angeles, the United States, and the world, it is cycling,” De La Cruz says. “There is more of an emphasis on bike infrastructure and a need for more bicycles to create a sustainable environment for the world that we live in."
China Reevers, a representative for city bike designer, Linus Bike, praises the members of The Bike Collective on taking initiative. “The Bike Collective group is a great way to allow those who are passionate about cycling to come together and educate their peers on the benefits of cycling. The group members’ efforts will result in the CSUN campus becoming even more bike-friendly which may influence more students to use their bike to commute to campus.”
